Ok, ok, I'm jumping on the bandwagon, here...

Now that [livejournal.com profile] meadmaker is eating various meats, I suppose there is no reason for me to NOT try one of the low-carb diets. Hey, they even work with my own dietary restrictions.

So, instead of Atkins, I'm going to try South Beach. Yeah. Perhaps that will work. Because, believe it or not, 60 lbs ago I only wore two sizes smaller than what I wear now. I don't know who said 10 lbs is about a size/size category. Feh. Not for me, and not for other women I know.

Perhaps that only works when you get to the smaller sizes.
Maybe - I don't remember that well. It was a long time ago.

I'm glad that it's not just me who has that size issue!

Tell me how South Beach goes. I've thought of trying it myself.

I'll let you know. If I get to a point where I feel like I'm pulling my hair out, I probably won't recommend it.

You're definitely not the only person with that problem. If I lose 20 pounds, I'll probably drop two pants sizes and stay the same blouse size, and never be able to buy a dress again unless it's stretchy, or to get a suit without getting it drastically tailored.

The people I know who have been on South Beach have done remarkably well with it. I'm considering doing that eventually, but I'm still getting used to the whole meat thing because it's just freakin' weird sometimes (to me at least).

Maybe in another six months or something I'll give it a shot.

I didn't want to do something as permanently drastic as Atkins. I want to be able to add things back in as I get to my goal. Atkins doesn't really provide for that.

Who knows, perhaps I can manage to be thin (or thereabouts) again...

South Beach was working well for me until I fell off the wagon; I'm getting back on this weekend. It's worked wonderfully for [livejournal.com profile] owllady13, she used Phase 1 (the strict no-carb phase that generally lasts two weeks) for her initiation fast, and clothes that didn't fit at all are now loose and comfortable.

I lost a bit while I was doing it, and even when I'm only doing it kinda half-assed, it's still good for my blood sugar. I binged at IG (that chocolate Poppycock was just TOO tasty :-), but I'm going back to Phase 1 for a week or two after the full moon this weekend.

:) Good idea. My initiation fast was the elimination/purification diet that my nutritionist put together.

I'm starting phase 1 now. I started today. Thing is, with another person on the Atkins diet in the group, it makes feasts much easier. :)

Good luck with it. Hopefully, we'll all be much healthier and fit at FG.

[livejournal.com profile] owllady13 has put together several tasty things that aren't in the SBD book, which made for tasty desserts that didn't deviate from the plan. My favorite was the shortbread made primarily from crushed hazelnuts; she'd give you the recipe if you asked, I don't recall it at the moment. Just watch it closely while baking, there's a fine line between 'done' and 'burned'. :-)

Also, if you make the ricotta creme desserts, we've found that a food processor or a hand blender improves the texture dramatically, and whipping in a little bit of heavy cream makes them much more palatable without really sacrificing much healthiness.

We should start a Blue Star low-carb club. :-)

You know, there are a number of folks that are doing the low-carb thing...I know of at least 4 Blue Star folks that are doing it.

Hmmm. At the very least, we can be support for each other when someone starts yelling, "Gimme Krispy Kreme!!!!!"
